Every pilot has people they can thank for support, inspiration, and help. Mentorship lets pilots take advantage of the vast pool of experience that volunteers have developed over thousands of hours of flying or years in the industry. With a member body as diverse and qualified as we have here at the NGPA, there is guidance available to someone at any stage of any type of involvement in aviation including flight training, career development, and community activities––the potential is limitless. If you are interested in volunteering as a mentor or requesting a mentor, contact us to learn what the NGPA Mentor Program can do for you.
“A moment’s insight is sometimes worth a life’s experience.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
This isn’t a time for you to be told what to do and someone to tell you to do your homework. Your mentor will provide encouragement, and possibly advice, based on their personal experience. It is someone to connect with no matter the situation, and build a lifetime friendship. Many mentors have been where you are today and if it weren’t for those friendships of those before you, they wouldn’t be where they are today.
Share your professional insights and experiences in aviation, and provide guidance to aspiring aviators. When you went through new-hire training or as a student pilot up for a check-ride may not be what it is today. Do your homework: what is your mentoree is going through, and how can you use your experiences to relate to them? This is an opportunity for you to change someone’s life. Teach them how to be a mentor, so that they may pass along their insights and experiences to someone after them.
