Cancellation Policy:

Full cancellations will be granted through the close of business on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 with a $15 administrative credit processing fee. After that, no refunds will be provided. In the event of a sell-out, the NGPA will make an announcement via social media, email, and the Association’s website. A waiting list will be generated on a first-come, first-served basis based on emails sent to the Registration Manager (steve.shanks@ngpa.org), and refunds will be provided on a one-for-one basis, less a $15 administrative credit processing fee. Regardless of reason, the NGPA accepts no responsibility and is not liable for cancellation fees assessed by the host hotel property (REMINGTON HOTELS, INC., d/b/a THE RENAISSANCE PALM SPRINGS HOTEL) to registrants utilizing the Association’s contracted group rate.

The 2018 NGPA Industry Expo Presented by United Airlines will be held on Friday, Feb. 9. Guest speakers and educational seminars for general aviation, business/corporate, and commercial pilots are in the lineup of events, including:

• Doug Hall, who is an Air Force Colonel and a pilot with over 20 years of service. He has flown the MC-130, the C-141, the C-5, and the C-17. He currently serves as the Operations Group Commander at Dover AFB in Delaware.
• Dr. Paul M. Foster will moderate an FAA-accredited Wings presentation about recommendations from a general aviation workgroup that studies loss of control. He’ll also address basic maintenance knowledge that all pilots need in order to communicate effectively with mechanics and to operate aircraft safely after maintenance work has been done.
• Douglas Carr is NBAA’s vice president of regulatory and international affairs and the staff liaison for NBAA’s International Operations Committee. He’ll moderate two sessions covering pilot fitness (Are you really ready to fly?) and hot topics for aviation safely such as wrong runway/surface landings, loss of control inflight, upset recovery, unruly passengers, and more.
• Flight attendant Doreen Welsh had only 90 seconds to focus on survival skills before US Airways Flight 1549 crash-landed into New York's Hudson River in 2010. Join Doreen as she takes participants on the emotional journey of that fateful day which became known as The Miracle on the Hudson.
• On September 11, 2001, air traffic controllers accomplished the massive task of clearing the skies in a matter of minutes when United States airspace was completely closed. There are many accounts from that infamous day; this is an exclusive opportunity to listen to retired controllers Peter Zalewski and Tom Morin give first-hand accounts of how the situation unfolded from the inside out.

After breakfast, we’ll welcome guest speaker Capt. Barry Schiff to the stage for our keynote address. With 28,000 hours logged in 356 types of aircraft (including the Lockheed U-2 and the Boeing B-52), Barry has received worldwide recognition for his wide-ranging aeronautical accomplishments.

Capt. Schiff was a rated Airline Transport Pilot at 21, and has earned every FAA category and class rating (except airship) and every flight instructor rating. He retired from Trans World Airlines in 1998 after a 34-year career during which he flew everything from the Lockheed Constellation to the Boeing 747 and was a check captain on the Boeing 767.

An award-winning journalist and author, he is well known to flying audiences for his award-winning books and 1,800 articles published in 111 aviation magazines, notably AOPA Pilot, for which he has been writing for 54 years. Many of his articles discuss personally developed concepts, procedures, and techniques that have received international acclaim. In 1963, he sold his aviation publishing business to the Times-Mirror Corporation.

Schiff also developed and worked to have adopted the concept of providing general aviation pilots with safe VFR routes through high-density airspace. In 1995 and with the personal approvals of Jordanian King Hussein and Israeli Prime Minister Itzhak Rabin, Schiff contributed to the Middle East peace process by leading a formation of 35 airplanes carrying 135 Americans, Israelis, and Jordanians from Jerusalem to Amman. As a result, he became the first pilot ever allowed to fly between those countries.

The flagship event of the weekend is our dinner buffet and banquet, and we’ve got a great menu lined up featuring a caprese salad with cherry tomatoes, fresh Bocconcini mozzarella, basil, and balsamic syrup; Greek salad with romaine, feta, red onion, Kalamata olives, fresh oregano, and Meyer lemon dressing; black bean salad with roasted corn, cilantro, tomato, cumin, red onion, and green onion; citrus thyme roasted chicken with herb demi-glaze; chipotle marinated flat iron steak; seared salmon with grilled pineapple jalapeno salsa; white rice with freshly-chopped cilantro; garlic broccoli rabe; key lime pie with caramel sauce; dinner rolls & butter; Starbucks coffee, tea, and iced tea.

But first, start off with cocktails (cash bar) in the foyer as you bid on silent auction items that benefit the NGPA Education Fund. The proceeds from the auction helps underwrite scholarships awarded to aspiring aviators pursuing careers as professional pilots and those who have demonstrated community involvement, including support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

Back by popular demand, the Chicago-based “Dynamic Duo” Amy Armstrong and Freddy Allen has been captivating audiences for over 20 years.

They have performed in cities coast to coast, and have been the opening act for several familiar names including Mary Wilson and the Supremes, Phyllis Diller, Bea Arthur, Jennifer Holiday, Judy Tenuta, Lois Bromfeld, and Judy Gold.

For 16 years, they have been the headline and mainstage act for RSVP Cruise Lines and their many sailings across the globe. RSVP hired Amy and Freddy as their 2006-2009 “Entertainment Ambassadors.”

Originally from Detroit, Amy has been a professional entertainer since she was a young child. Her powerful and soulful voice mesmerizes listeners while her hilarious and risqué humor keeps them doubled over in laughter. Amy made her home in Chicago in 1995 and quickly became one of the Windy City’s hottest talents.

Freddy, Amy’s pianist and music director, has been a professional musician for over twenty-five years. After moving from St. Louis in 1995, Freddy successfully made his name as one of Chicago’s most well-known pianists. When he’s not performing with Amy, Freddy works as a freelance musician.

Amy and Freddy have produced four very successful albums; Amy and Freddy- the debut, Life is a Cabaret, Naturally Flawless and Feeling Good. All of the recordings have been recognized nationally, and have received rave reviews.

Amy’s beautiful voice, edgy humor and quick wit, combined with Freddy’s impeccable musical arrangements and sly repartee, create an evening of enjoyable and unforgettable entertainment.
